Ronald McDonald House New York provides temporary housing for pediatric cancer patients and their families in a strong, supportive and caring environment which encourages and nurtures the development of child-to-child and parent-to-parent support systems.  Ronald McDonald House New York is the largest facility of its type in the world. The House can accommodate 84 families, and it is filled to capacity almost every night. The House’s location in Manhattan, in close proximity to 13 major cancer treatment centers, draws children and families from across the country and the world, as well as from the metropolitan New York City area.  Since its founding, more than 25,000 families have stayed at Ronald McDonald House New York.

  • Ronald McDonald House New York (RMH-New York) was officially incorporated in 1978. Since then, it has opened its doors to families with children undergoing cancer therapy in New York City, providing temporary housing for pediatric cancer patients and their families.
  • RMH-New York is the largest pediatric oncology housing facility of its kind in the world and occupies an eleven-story, 79,000-square-foot building located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
  • RMH-New York can accommodate 84 families, and it is filled to capacity nearly every night.
  • The House’s location in Manhattan, in close proximity to 13 major cancer treatment centers, draws children and families from across the world.
  • More than 25,000 families have stayed at the House since its founding. Over the years, our guests have ranged in age from a few days old to 22 years of age.
  • Programs and services for our kids and their families are made possible by more than 250 volunteers. On average, our volunteers are with us for at least five years – our longest-running volunteer has generously donated her time to RMH-New York for more than 30 years.
  • Our volunteers are of the canine variety as well. Since 2006, 23 certified therapy dogs visit the House on a regular basis and are especially effective in helping to boost morale and social-spiritual wellbeing for kids and their families.
  • Many of the children who have stayed at the House over the years have survived their illness and gone on to lead normal, healthy lives.
  • RMH-New York engages the community with annual events including Skate with the Greats with the New York Rangers, Winged Foot Golf Outing, Annual Gala at the Waldorf=Astoria, and the New York Pops Gala Concert at Carnegie Hall.
  • Over the years, we’ve had children and families from most every state and over 70 countries.

Ronald McDonald House New York provides a temporary “home-away-from-home” for pediatric cancer patients and their families.

The House is a supportive and caring environment which encourages and nurtures the development of child-to-child and parent-to-parent support systems. Ronald McDonald House New York is the largest facility of its type in the world.

The proceeds of The Ronald McDonald House’s Foundation Auction will support a yearly schedule of Ronald McDonald youth/family programs and also assist The Gift of Life International Organization.

Gift of Life International (GOLI) is the umbrella organization which provides support and coordination to individual GOL programs around the world. In tandem, they help save the lives of hundreds of children each year.

In the fall of 2008, GOLI and GOL programs around the world celebrated the saving of their 10,000th life. While this was a significant milestone for our family of Rotarians, volunteers and healthcare professionals, the need for more and more help remains. It is in this light that GOLI has set an aggressive goal of saving the lives of 30,000 children over the next decade. This will necessitate an increase in the number of children we identify, transport, treat, help recuperate and return home healthy by 2,000 each year! We base the strategy for achieving this goal on these three principles:

  • Develop sustainable pediatric cardiac care programs in countries which currently do not have them
  • Provide pediatric surgical training to regional cardiologists to create surgical self-reliance for medical teams
  • Identify and cultivate reliable funding sources while increasing the global awareness of GOLI

The Foundation Auction for The Child’s Champion Award includes The Ronald McDonald House of New York, Gift of Life International, New York Rotary Club, The International Rotary Club, The Harlem Children’s Society and New York City’s finest professional auction staff from The Manhattan Auction House and Grandstand Sports.  Live Auction items include:  Lake Tahoe winter or summer getaway, All expenses paid trip to Mexico, Fine Artwork, Custom Cigars and VIP Yankees/Mets Tickets to name a few exciting lots.

ABOUT TASTE OF THE LOWER EAST SIDE™

For the last twelve years Grand St. Settlement has annually hosted Taste of the Lower East Side™, one of New York City’s most anticipated tasting events that raises funds for our programs and services.  Taste of the Lower East Side (TLES) began in 2000 when members of the Grand Street Settlement family realized that the neighborhood’s burgeoning restaurant community was a wonderful reflection of the area’s historically rich and culturally diverse make-up. By partnering with local eateries, food lovers and restaurants could give back to their less fortunate Lower East Side neighbors. More than a decade later, TLES is one of the City’s favorite tasting events, attracting upward of 1,000 supporters.

Proceeds from Taste of the Lower East Side directly support Grand Street Settlement’s comprehensive programs, such as Head Start classes for low-income parents and their young children, free and healthy hot lunches for seniors, after-school pregnancy prevention initiatives for teens, and the volunteer mentoring program J.U.M.P.! (Juniors Undertaking Manhattan’s Possibilities).

GRAND STREET SETTLEMENT 

Grand Street Settlement was founded in 1916 in the bustling, diverse immigrant community of the Lower East Side. Its mission – which remains strong today – was, and still is, to help less fortunate members of the community get vital services for their families; services such as childcare, hot meals, health screenings and culturally relevant activities. Today, Grand Street Settlement remains an essential community resource serving nearly 10,000 neighbors in the Lower East Side and in parts of Brooklyn annually.

Grand Street Settlement provides free day care and early education programs for infants and toddlers, and academic enrichment and recreational programs for youth and teens. There are programs offering referrals for job readiness training and helping families enroll in public benefits. For senior citizens, the Settlement provides free hot meals, health screenings and opportunities for living healthier, independent lives through education, exercise and social activities.

 The Alpine Concourse d’Elegance and Car Show was a fantastic success for Alpine Schools.  As many private education programs, Alpine School continues teaching young minds this year because of productive fundraising.   The Alpine Concourse included a three day luxury car show, gourmet catered meals, casino night legal gambling, Champagne fountains, and of course an auction of designer diamonds, Ferraris and Bentleys at Monticello Raceway, Ulysse Nardin Time Pieces, New York Yankee Pitcher CC Sabathia’s signed leather jacket, New York Giant Carl Bank’s Signed Leather Jacket, Classical International Artwork, Contemporary Oil Masterpieces and luxury vacation packages.

Alpine black tie gala was sponsored in part by The Manhattan Auction House and Patron.  So as you can imagine, tucked away in the woods at the IBM plush corporate retreat, millionaires and supporters enjoyed top shelf Tequila and a limitless supply of entertainment while supporting the next generation of bright students by dancing the night away.  Special thanks to all the donors, sponsors, planners, teachers and staff, who make our world possible.
